Hi, I'm Kelly! I'm a seven-month old puppy, who needed help finding a family. I haven't had the best start in life. My litter mates and I were abandoned in a ditch at 2.5 months old and then we spent time in a shelter. Thankfully, I'm with New Leash now! Because I didn't have positive experiences as a young pup, my first reaction to new things is fear. My foster mom says I have a heightened flight response. When I'm scared or nervous, I want to run and hide. It also takes me longer than other pups to warm up to new surroundings. It took me two days to climb up on the couch and snuggle with my foster mom. Once I did, I discovered that I LOVE to snuggle next to someone! Even after several weeks, I'm still unsure of some things in my foster home. I don't walk well on a leash, but we are working on it. My foster mom says, "Baby steps." I really like to play with kind dogs and learn a lot from confident dogs. They teach me that life isn't as scary as I might think. I'm looking for a home with: another sweet dog to show me the ropes; a quieter household, with or without gentle, older children; humans who will be patient with me; a physically, fenced-in yard; and a kennel where I can have a 'safe space' to escape to when I've had enough interacting time. I'm a good boy and would enjoy some training to help me develop confidence. The way to my heart is through my stomach. I love treats! I have only had a couple accidents in the house, but will need house training practice. I love my kennel, but will howl and cry if I need to go potty. Please contact my foster mom if you think you might be my forever family!

Kelly is neutered and current on vaccinations, microchipped, and dewormed and on preventatives.

This dog will be at our adoption day event at the Woodbury Petsmart from 11-2 looking for a home.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable.

There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
