Holden - COURTESY POST

This is not a dog that is currently a part of New Leash Rescue. Contact information is provided below for more information.

Holden is a two to three year old shepherd mix that weighs around 35-40 pounds and is looking for a new home. He is very loving, smart, loyal, and protective. Holden is from an Alabama shelter originally where he spent his first year of life before moving to a local shelter where he was very scared in the environment.

Holden is initially very nervous with new people, but very sweet once he feels he can trust you. He may need more time than some go earn his trust. He needs a home that is quiet and without a lot of visitors coming and going. Loud voices, noises and sudden movements can scare him.

Holden has also been afraid of the husband in his current home.
When just the husband is home he just hides and won't come out the whole time he is there until he goes to bed. If I am home and my husband comes down where he is Holden barks and howls and is nervous and acting very protective of me. We have tried many things and he just still can't stand the sound of my husband's voice or when he gets off the couch to fast. I finally had to come to the realization that it wouldn't be fair to him to keep him in this environment where he feels so scared and anxious around my husband.

He gets along well with other dogs. He has not been around cats.
Holden needs to be adopted by a very special person or family that has a lot patience and lots of love and special treats to help him bond with you. Once he is comfortable in his new home he will make an awesome companion. He loves Nylabones all day and night. Every kind and every flavor.

He would love for someone to work with him one on one obedience training or agility training. He is very smart and fast. He has been to the dog park and after a little while he will start to run and play. He walks well on leash but can still pull at times.

He will potty outdoors and also on puppy-pads if you need to leave him for an extended amount of time.

Holden is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and is in good health.

Holden's adoption fee is $150.
